HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT TICKET CATEGORY

5 min read·Updated May 2026

Buying World Cup tickets can be confusing. FIFA uses a category system (Cat 1, 2, 3) rather than named sections. Here is exactly what each category means, where you sit, and how to decide which is right for you.

CATEGORY 1 — THE BEST SEATS

Category 1 tickets place you in the prime viewing zones: lower bowl, central sections, as close to the halfway line as possible. These are the seats you see on TV — directly level with the pitch with the best sightlines to both goals. The atmosphere is excellent because you are surrounded by the most passionate, engaged fans.

For marquee matches (Argentina vs Brazil, the Final, Semi-Finals), Category 1 tickets command significant premium pricing. At the World Cup Final, Cat 1 starts from $2,200 per seat.

GoalPass Tips

  • Best for: fans who want the definitive match experience and are willing to pay for it
  • Upgrade to Cat 1 for big matches — the difference vs Cat 2 is genuinely significant
  • Pair with hospitality for the complete premium day

CATEGORY 2 — GREAT VALUE MIDDLE GROUND

Category 2 covers the upper bowl central sections and some lower bowl side sections. You still have an excellent view of the full pitch, you are still close enough to feel the atmosphere, and pricing is 30–40% lower than Category 1.

For most fans, Category 2 is the sweet spot. You are not compromising the experience in any meaningful way for most matches. For the Final and Semi-Finals, many fans upgrade to Cat 1 as a once-in-a-lifetime moment.

CATEGORY 3 — BEHIND THE GOAL

Category 3 places you in the sections behind the goal at each end of the stadium. These are the cheapest seats and also the loudest. Ultras and travelling fans congregate here. The view is more end-on than side-on, meaning you are looking down the length of the pitch rather than across it.

Category 3 is absolutely worth it if you are going for atmosphere over sightlines — or if budget is the primary consideration. Do not underestimate the experience in the end sections.

WHICH CATEGORY SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

The right category depends on three things: the match, your budget, and what you prioritise.

  • Group Stage — small match (Cat 2 or 3 is fine, save for bigger matches)
  • Group Stage — big rivalry or derby (Cat 1 or upgrade to hospitality)
  • Round of 16 (Cat 1 recommended — stakes and atmosphere are significantly higher)
  • Quarter-Final and beyond (Cat 1 minimum — these are once-in-a-decade moments)
  • Semi-Final (Cat 1 with hospitality, if budget allows)
  • World Cup Final (Category does not matter — just being there is extraordinary. Go Cat 1 if you can)

THE HOSPITALITY UPGRADE OPTION

Across all categories, GoalPass offers a hospitality overlay — lounge access, in-seat service, or a private suite. This upgrades any ticket to a premium experience. The hospitality pricing is per person, per match, and can be added to any existing ticket booking.

GoalPass Tips

  • Combine Cat 2 ticket + Gold Lounge hospitality for a premium experience at a lower base price than Cat 1 alone
  • Corporate groups: always pair Category 2 with corporate hospitality for the best value
