MATCHDAY CHECKLIST: EVERYTHING YOU NEED

4 min read·Updated May 2026

Matchday at the World Cup is an experience you will never forget. Make sure nothing gets in the way of it. Here is the complete GoalPass matchday checklist — what to bring, what to leave behind, and how to make it seamless.

WHAT TO BRING — ESSENTIAL

  • Your ticket (digital on phone OR printed backup — have both)
  • Your passport or photo ID — required for all World Cup entry
  • Payment card (stadiums are largely cashless — no cash needed)
  • Mobile phone fully charged + power bank
  • Small clear bag (12" x 6" x 12" max) — checked at security
  • Water bottle — empty at entry, refillable inside
  • Sunscreen — even for evening matches, you may queue in heat
  • Light layer or jacket for evening and indoor air conditioning

WHAT TO LEAVE AT THE HOTEL

  • Large bags or backpacks (not allowed through standard security)
  • Umbrellas (not permitted at most World Cup venues)
  • Professional camera equipment with detachable lenses
  • Glass bottles or metal cans
  • Selfie sticks or monopods
  • Political flags or banners not related to a competing nation

GETTING THERE — TIMING

GoalPass recommends arriving at the stadium 90 minutes before kick-off. This gives you time for security without rushing, allows you to find your seat, get food and drinks, and absorb the build-up atmosphere. For Final and Semi-Final matches, allow 2 hours.

GoalPass Tips

  • Check transport options the night before — not on matchday morning
  • Have a backup route planned (Metro delays happen on big matchdays)
  • GoalPass matchday transport picks up 2.5 hours before kick-off

INSIDE THE STADIUM

  • Go straight to your seat on arrival — the view from the pitch level is extraordinary
  • Food and drink queues are shortest in the first 30 minutes after gates open
  • Refill your water bottle at stadium water stations (free)
  • Save your battery — use phone sparingly during the match for photos
  • At half time: go immediately for food/drink if needed (queues peak at 10 mins in)
  • Post-match: wait 10–15 minutes in your seat for crowd to disperse before leaving

AFTER THE MATCH

The post-match crowd dispersal is the most chaotic part of any World Cup day. GoalPass hospitality guests have access to extended post-match suite/lounge time — use it and leave when the crowds thin. For general ticket holders, waiting 10–15 minutes in your seat before walking to transport makes a significant difference.

GoalPass Tips

  • Agree a meeting point with your group before the match if you might get separated
  • Pre-book your return transport — do not try to hail a rideshare post-match
  • GoalPass returns are pre-arranged — you will be met at a designated gate
