BRINGING THE FAMILY TO THE WORLD CUP

7 min read·Updated May 2026

The World Cup is a once-in-a-generation experience to share with your family. With the right planning, it is an extraordinary trip for children of all ages. Here is everything parents need to know.

TICKETS FOR CHILDREN

Children under 2 do not require a ticket if seated on a parent's lap. Children 2 and over require a full ticket — there are no child discounts for World Cup matches. FIFA does allocate a small number of 'family section' tickets for Group Stage matches — these are in designated quieter areas of the stadium away from large supporter blocks.

GoalPass Tips

  • Book family section tickets early — they are limited and always sell out
  • Under-2s are strongly advised to skip the Final — the noise level is significant
  • Category 2 or 3 tickets are better for families with young children than Category 1 (less intense environment)

HOTEL CHOICES FOR FAMILIES

Families should prioritise hotels with suites or interconnecting rooms, on-site restaurant and pool, and close proximity to public transport. In New York: the Westin at Times Square has family suites and a central location. In LA: the Marriott at the Grove offers excellent family facilities. In Miami: the 1 Hotel South Beach has beach access and family rooms.

GoalPass Tips

  • Request interconnecting rooms at booking — do not leave it to chance on arrival
  • Pool is a must for US summer heat — confirm pool availability before booking
  • GoalPass can arrange family-specific hotels as part of a package

KEEPING CHILDREN COMFORTABLE AT THE STADIUM

  • Ear protection for under-7s — stadium noise exceeds 90dB during a major match
  • Snacks from outside (sealed, non-glass containers permitted at most venues)
  • Agreed meeting point in case of separation — teach children the venue name and section
  • Child wristbands with parent contact number (available at stadium info points)
  • Empty refillable water bottle — heat management is important for children
  • Small clear bag for all child essentials (snacks, sunscreen, ear protection)

CITY ACTIVITIES FOR FAMILIES

Each host city has excellent family-friendly activities. In New York: Central Park, the American Museum of Natural History, and the Intrepid Museum. In LA: Universal Studios, the Natural History Museum, and Santa Monica Beach. In Miami: Jungle Island, Zoo Miami, and the beaches.

GoalPass Tips

  • Book Universal Studios and major attractions in advance — World Cup period will be busy
  • Fan zones are family-friendly in the daytime — arrive early before evening crowds
  • GoalPass city guides include family-specific recommendations for each host city
